Our story today centers around Arashi Beach. Arashi is a word from the Arawak language meaning “pick up your trash when you leave”, a nice stretch of beach for about 2 miles that’s easily accessible by any vehicle and is clearly displayed on your complementary map. Not that you need one because GPS works fine here as long as you are at the south-side of the hill-range.
Arashi is a well known beach to relax and let your hair down or your buns out if you’re into that type of thing, but it’s also a popular surf spot where surfers, bodyboarders and kite surfers flock to the beach whenever conditions are favorable for a fun time.

Arashi has a secret it shares only with a select few, and that is: Shells! Conch Shells to be exact. This is a protected archaeological sight that is considered intangible heritage to the island.
Legend has it that the Caquetios (Indigenous inhabitants) were avid fishermen and dove regularly for Conch. This sight used to be a well known gathering place for Conch diving.

Don’t know much about Conch diving, but I do dive in some Conch during the weekends. In closing, the Arashi experience is a must, so butter on that sunscreen and enjoy. I hope you enjoyed the tour and like I always say once a guest always a friend!
