The Arubian National Anthem (Aruba Dushi Tera)

Published | Apr 1, 2024

The 18th of March marks the official commemoration and celebration of the National flag and Anthem of Aruba. In this edition of the Flag N’ Anthem special we’re going to talk in short about the Arubian National Anthem.

Don’t forget to check out our previous article on the Arubian Flag. Aruba Dushi Tera is the name of the national anthem, which translates to Aruba Sweet land or Aruba Nice land.

It is a crioyo style waltz that was composed by Rufo Wever and Juan Chabaya Lampe, (affectionately known as Padu del Caribe) in 1953 and became very popular.

Crioyo means creole just so you know. The original composition only had 2 verses; the third verse was added in 1976 by composer Hubert Lio Booi. It became the national anthem on March 18th, 1976. The lyrics go as follows, mind you this is a rough verbatim translation from Papiamento to English.
